NATO officials say the alliance has decided not to invite Macedonia to join during the summit in Bucharest.

Latvian President Valdis Zatlers says NATO leaders have agreed, however, that Macedonia can join once it resolves a dispute over its name with Greece.

Another NATO official has confirmed to The Associated Press that Macedonia will not be invited right now to join. The official was speaking on condition of anonymity Thursday because she was not authorized to discuss the proceedings.

Greece has a northern province that is also called Macedonia, and contends the former Yugoslav republic's insistence on being known as Macedonia implies a territorial claim.
