A 51-year-old motorcyclist who was escorting a funeral procession Wednesday in Missouri suffered severe injuries after being hit by a man thought to have been driving drunk, MyFOXKC.com reported.

The funeral escort was hit by an SUV driven by a 20-year-old man, who was trying to pass the procession, according to police.

The injured man was in critical condition Wednesday night, police said. They wouldn't identify the victim, and would provide any additional information about the 20-year-old, who is under investigation for drunken driving but has yet to be charged with a crime.

The 51-year-old was at the end of the procession trying to catch up with the front of the procession to block the next intersection when the SUV driver tried to pass the line of cars on double yellow line roadway, police told FOXNews.com.

The impact pushed the funeral escort into a brick pillar, the station reported.
