Spring Accessory Dos and Don'ts

One of the best ways to add trend to your Spring wardrobe is with this season's amazing accessories. Read on for some dos and don'ts on how to wear the hottest styles.

Don't Over Accessorize.

I'm not a big believer in fashion rules, but over-accessorizing is a definite DON'T. Choose one great accessory like a print scarf, great bracelet or fabulous bag. This is a great way to add color and trend like this Spring's flowers and prints to a basic outfit.

If you're feeling bare and must wear more than one thing, keep them far apart like a ring and earrings or a scarf and bag. Finally, remember, size is important. If you're ultra petite avoid big jewelry and oversized bags. If you're not so small stay away from very delicate pieces that will get lost and overlooked.

Don't Be Too Matchy-Matchy

Matching your accessories to your outfit can be good AND bad. Naturally, you don't want to wear an aqua pendant with a yellow dress but at the same time wearing an aqua pendant with an aqua dress is definitely too matchy matchy. When it comes to colored stones, beads and crystals pair with neutral outfits.

Gold jewelry looks great with hotter colors like red, green and yellow, while silver accessories work better with cooler colors like blue and purple. Also, don't forget the shape of your outfit. A long pendant is not going to work with a low cut top while a short necklace will look terrible with a turtle-neck. Finally, don't wear matching jewelry. The same style necklace, earrings and ring is definitely too much.

Do Change With the Seasons

As we go from Winter to Spring, your accessories should change with your wardrobe. Look to update your bag with new fabrics, colors and styles. For Spring, try straw instead of suede or leather and white instead of black or brown. Also pay attention to trends like this season's structured style bags. This is especially hot this season, but a look that will never go out of style.

Do Use Accessories to Accentuate the Positive

Accessories are a great way to emphasize your best parts and hide your not so favorite parts. Jewelry in particular is a great way to call attention to a long neck or a pretty wrist and a belt will have people noticing a slim waist. Find one great statement piece and wear it to accentuate the positive!
