A single-propeller airplane made an emergency landing on a Scottsdale road Monday after experiencing mechanical problems shortly after takeoff.

Scottsdale police Officer Dave Pubins says the pilot landed on Lone Mountain Road in the northern part of the city because it is less-traveled than other streets in the area.

The plane clipped a speed-limit sign as it landed. The 35-year-old pilot and a 19-year-old student on board were not injured.

A few curious drivers paused to check out the scene Monday afternoon, but Pubins says traffic was unimpeded.

"There's a lot of people just stopping and taking photographs," he said.
