LAHORE, Pakistan – Two homicide bombers blew themselves up on the premises of a naval college Tuesday, killing five people and wounding 13 in the eastern city of Lahore, officials said.
The explosions took place in the parking lot of the Naval War College, said naval spokesman Capt. Akbar Naqi. He said one naval personnel was killed.
However, Lahore police chief Malik Iqbal put the death toll at five, and said 13 people were wounded. He said the two near simultaneous explosions took place in a food delivery truck.
Dr. Rizwan Naseer, a rescue service official, said most of the wounded are in critical condition.
Naqi said he had no information about a food truck and added that there was no damage to the college's building.
Live television footage showed the rear gate of the college blown apart. Black smoke was billowing from inside the compound, and several people with bloodstained clothes were seen walking out. The images showed at least two vehicles were on fire.
Security personnel could be seen clearing the area in an upscale neighborhood that also houses the state governor's house, a five-star hotel and government offices.
The Naval War College trains senior naval officials from Pakistan and other countries.
