An armed man terrorized customers at a Whatcom County, Wash., K-Mart, running and screaming through the store Thursday, knocking people over and holding the store's manager at knifepoint, kirotv.com reports.

The man also smashed a display case and stole a gun and ammunition, kirotv.com reports, but never fired any weapons, police say.

The gunman threatened to kill himself but eventually surrendered to officers in the parking lot, kirotv.com reports.

"We saw people running out of the store, people (who) witnessed this event inside the store," Bellingham Police Department Deputy Chief David Doll told kirotv.com. "We ask them to please contact us so that we can get their information."
