Authorities say an alligator attack on three dogs in Delray Beach has left one canine presumed dead.

Witnesses called the Delray Beach Fire-Rescue Department after seeing an alligator moving in on the trio.

When rescuers arrived at the lake, the alligator grabbed one of the dogs and pulled it down. Another canine ran away, while a third was rescued and taken to the county's animal shelter.

Fire-Rescue Battalion Chief Russ Accardi says the dogs were probably stray because no one has claimed them.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials are heading to the scene to assess the situation.
