Farmington police say an anonymous donation of coins set off a bomb scare in Town Hall.
The bomb squad was called after a suspicious package that was gift wrapped was found underneath the town's Christmas tree Wednesday.
Lt. William Tyler says there was a note that said "To a needy person" and bomb squad members found another box with a note that said, "To someone who could use this."
Police say inside were gold coins worth about $550.
Town Collector Teresa Colton says the money will be given to the town's social services department.
Tyler says if anyone would like to follow this lead, maybe a see-through package would be helpful from a police standpoint.
