Experimental Plane Crash Kills Pilot in North Carolina

The pilot of a single-seat plane was killed when the plane crashed near Statesville Regional Airport.

Iredell County emergency officials said the experimental plane crashed into a wooded area during take-off Wednesday morning.

Witnesses said the plane was flying just above the tree line before it went down nose first.

The pilot's name has not been released. Authorities and witnesses said the pilot lived in Statesville and flew out of the airport often.
