More than 100 searchers are combing through Morrow Mountain State Park trying to find a severely autistic 13-year-old boy missing since he went on a hike with his father.
Officials say Kyle Whittman of Oakboro entered the park Sunday afternoon with his father. The distraught dad later flagged down a ranger to report the boy missing.
The boy's parents say their son usually sits down and stays in one place in the woods, but didn't do that this time. He was wearing blue jeans and a red sweat shirt when last seen.
Officials say searchers are focusing on horse trails in a 350-acre section on the western side of the park. The park covers nearly 5,000 acres in Stanly County.
The park about 50 miles northeast of Charlotte.
