A maverick climber nicknamed the 'French Spiderman' earned some high-altitude redemption by using his bare hands to scale a 4,980-foot mountain in China Sunday after the being expelled in June for climbing an office building.

Alain Robert, 44, was invited back by Chinese amusement operator for the purpose of climbing Tianmen Mountain in Zhangjiajie, according to a Reuters report.

He had been arrested and banned from the Communist nation for five years for climbing the 1,410-foot Jin Mao Tower in Shanghai, without ropes or safety equipment, the report said.

Robert is billed as a high-profile "urban climber" who had also been arrested for attempting to scale Malaysia's 88-storey Petronas Twin Towers.
