FRESNO, Calif. – A panel of judges on Thursday ruled that Laci Peterson's mother deserves to collect $250,000 from her daughter's life insurance policy, the Modesto Bee reported.
The ruling reaffirms a decision by Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge Roger Beauchesne from almost two years ago that Sharon Rocha, Laci's mother and executor of her daughter's estate, should receive the payment, the Bee reported.
Scott Peterson was the principal beneficiary to Laci's life insurance policy but forfeited his rights to it when he was convicted of killing the woman and her unborn fetus in 2004, the Bee reported. The fact that Scott Peterson is appealing the conviction is not enough to delay the payout, the three-judge panel ruled.
Scott Peterson was found guilty of murdering Laci and the couple's unborn son just before Christmas 2002. He is on death row at San Quentin State Prison.
