RALEIGH, N.C. – Officials have locked down a middle school in southeast Raleigh after a parent told police a student had a gun.
Raleigh police officers and Wake County Sheriff's Office deputies began to search Ligon Middle School after receiving the tip around 7:25 a.m.
Wake County schools spokesman Chip Sudderth confirmed the "code red" lockdown but said he did not have any other details. Police spokesman Jim Sughrue told The News & Observer of Raleigh the situation appeared be close to a resolution and that parents should not be alarmed.
A person who answered the phone at Ligon told the newspaper that all students were in their classrooms with the doors locked and the lights out. "At this point, we're safe," she said.
