A state judge has denied a request to relocate a serial rapist about to released to a a relative's home in a Southbury neighborhood after more than 24 years in prison.

New London Superior Court Judge Susan Handy says 54-year-old David Pollitt has served his sentence and is entitled to his freedom. Attorney General Richard Blumenthal asked the judge to have Pollitt be released to a halfway house or some similar facility. But the judge says there are no halfway houses for sex offenders.

Blumenthal made the request on behalf of the Office of the Child Advocate because dozens of children live in the Southbury neighborhood where Pollitt will live with his sister.

Handy says Blumenthal has no standing to make the request.

Pollitt is due to be released Friday. State probation officials say he faces some of the strictest release conditions in Connecticut.
