HARTFORD, Conn. – Federal authorities say a Massachusetts man has been sentenced to three years in prison for arranging illegal sex with a girl he met on the social networking site MySpace.
Jason Palmeira, 27, of Springfield, was sentenced in federal court in Hartford for traveling in interstate commerce for the purpose of engaging in illicit sexual conduct. He pleaded guilty May 22.
Palmeira last year met a girl through MySpace whose profile indicated she was 15. Palmeira's profile indicated he was 26.
On July 13 of last year, Palmeira drove to the victim's hometown in Connecticut, picked her up and took her to a home in Springfield, Massachusetts. Authorities say Palmeira and the victim engaged in sexual contact while at the home.
