Twelve people including five children were killed in Guatemala when a pickup truck was washed away in a river swollen by heavy rains.
Sixteen people piled into the truck after attending an election rally in Guatemala City, and were trying to cross the river early Sunday when the vehicle was caught in the rushing current, rescue official Oscar Sanchez said.
The other four escaped.
Guatemala's presidential vote is scheduled for Sept. 9.
