• Senator Arlen Specter (R-Pa.), Judiciary Committee Ranking Member

The battle over the next attorney general begins after Alberto Gonzales resigned this week. Congressional leaders urge the president to pick a consensus candidate — an attorney who will fight against corruption. However, some Democrats say they will confirm the president’s choice only if he agrees to name a special prosecutor to investigate Gonzales. Joining us will be Judiciary Committee Chairman Senator Leahy, and the committee’s top Republican and Judiciary Committee Ranking Member Arlen Specter.
Then, reaction from the White House: who will the president choose to replace the outgoing attorney general? Plus, a look at the state of the Bush White House as it heads into home stretch. We’ll speak with the new Counselor to the President Ed Gillespie in his first Sunday interview.
Our panel will discuss the political fallout of Senator Larry Craig from Idaho, who pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct at the beginning of the month, and has since said he did nothing wrong. The episode has roiled the Republican Party and produced numerous calls for him to step down.
