A 12-year-old New Hampshire boy is facing criminal theft charges after he allegedly stole a candy cigar from a candy store.

Peggy Fennelly, the owner of Sweet Josie’s Candy Shoppe in York, Maine, said she chased down two boys whom she suspected of stealing candy. After the pursuit, she caught one of them, who had not yet devoured what he stole, MyFoxBoston.com reported.

The boy, full of remorse, tearfully apologized to Fennelly by phone and sent a full-page apologetic letter, pledging that it would never happen again.

The boy even promised to do extra chores around his house, and donate his allowance to charity.
