Time to get the puke bag out and hurl baby, hurl. The White House, Congress, the media and the military are all singing the same tune: the much anticipated "September Review of the Surge in Iraq" will only be a snapshot — a small glimpse into the status of sending thousands of additional U.S. soldiers to Iraq.
We know what the report will say: “U.S. Forces are fighting with great bravery, but the Iraq government, military and police are not … fighting that is.” Well now, what the hell are our brave soldiers doing there if the decisions and opinions for three months from now are already decided? I know I am not the sharpest tool in the box, but even I can smell the rotting burning flesh of “politics” in this.
Just months ago, the current administration was hailing the surge and anticipating a great victory. The press and the majority of the American people have tragically turned on this war; it is clear that most of the country wants us out of Iraq now. Soooo ... what the hell are our soldiers doing getting blow apart and killed at the rate of 32 in six days, and being attacked over 1,000 times a week? I know that answer: our soldiers — not the Iraqi military and police — have not given up and have not written the final chapter. Soldiers always get it. They pay attention with their eyes on the prize and always make us proud.
Our political leaders and senior officers in the military need to pay attention to, and be more like, the soldiers they have proven so unworthy to lead. Despite incompetence at every turn, despite 135 degree heat, despite four to five combat tours in less than five years, despite the almost total lack of guts and determination from the Iraqi government, army and police, despite sustaining horrific casualties and despite being attacked over 1,000 times a week, our service men and women are still getting it done and in magnificent fashion.
However, if we are not going to pay attention to Iraq, if our politicians are going to use Iraq for “legacy” or to get “elected,” then stop the chaos train that Iraq has become. Stop letting our guys get blown apart and bring them home now.
Our brave men and women are getting it done. Who is not getting it done is our government, and the Iraqi government, army and police. Our soldiers are creating a secure “bubble” to allow the Iraqi government to take charge. Unbelievably, the Iraq government is using this sacrifice to plan their SUMMER VACATONS.
The Iraq government is using this “LAST CHANCE” to re-enact Saddam’s laws. What you ask? Saddam Hussein, the guy we invaded to stop? Yes — the Maliki government has recently re-enacted the “You Cannot Charge a Government Official with a Crime Without getting his Boss’ Permission Law.”
You cannot make this crap up. The government of Iraq has insulated itself from the billions of dollars of corruption charges that awaits it. Allow me to put a number on this — at least $10 billion. There are over 40 separate corruption investigations on the Maliki Government that were just stopped because of this law. This is what over 37,000 American service men and women have died or been wounded for. I think not.
Come join me in the corner for some serious barfing.
