Film director Steven Spielberg endorsed Sen. Hillary Clinton for president on Wednesday, saying she is the most qualified candidate among Democratic White House hopefuls.

“I’ve taken the time to familiarize myself with the impressive field of Democratic candidates and am convinced that Hillary Clinton is the most qualified candidate to lead us from her first day in the White House,” Spielberg said on HillaryHub.com. “Hillary is a strong leader and is respected the world over. As president, she will bring America back together, rebuild our prestige abroad and ensure our protection here at home.”

Spielberg carries weight in the Hollywood crowd that could help Clinton pick up more campaign cash and endorsements. He co-hosted a Hollywood fundraiser for her in March that raised more than $1 million.

Spielberg's company, DreamWorks Studios, won three consecutive Best Picture Academy Awards for "American Beauty," "Gladiator," and "A Beautiful Mind." Spielberg directed, produced, or executive produced "Jurassic Park" and "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial."
