Dell Inc. said Friday it will start selling consumer notebook computers at more than 500 of Wal-Mart Stores Inc.'s (WMT) Sam's Club stores starting next week, its latest move to sell computers in retail chains.

Dell (DELL) last month said it would start selling desktop computers for less than $700 each in more than 3,000 Wal-Mart stores in North America. Today's announcement expands Dell's retail push to notebook computers, which are typically more expensive and more profitable than low-end desktops.

The Inspiron 1501 notebooks will have Turion dual-core processors from Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (AMD), two gigabytes of memory and 120-gigabyte hard-disk drives, Dell spokesman David Frink said. They will feature Microsoft Corp.'s (MSFT) Vista Home Premium operating system, he said.

Frink said he did not immediately have information on the notebooks' prices.
