MANCHESTER, Conn. – A Manchester man arrested after police found him with a plush Easter bunny that had been stuffed with marijuana has been given a suspended prison sentence.
Ian Lawrence, 26, had been pulled over by police in April after allegedly running a red light. Police said they found 19 grams of marijuana in his car, most of it inside the stuffed rabbit.
In Superior Court Tuesday, Lawrence was sentenced to a suspended one-year prison term followed by two years of probation after pleading guilty to possession of marijuana.
Other charges, including operating a drug factory and motor vehicle violations were dropped.
Policed said that after Lawrence was stopped and stepped out of the car, the officer smelled marijuana and saw some marijuana on the floor between the driver's seat and the door.
The officer searched the car and found two baggies of marijuana in the glove box and the bunny. Inside the bunny, which was holding an Easter basket, they found 16 small plastic bags of pot, police said.
When Lawrence was arrested, he was wearing a DARE T-shirt. DARE stands for Drug Abuse Resistance Education, an anti-drug program.
