A package containing 12 pounds of marijuana arrived at the Kent Primary School from California this week — but police say the intended recipient and the sender remain a mystery.
The package was addressed to Joan Pinserton, a misspelling of the principal's name — Pinkerton. It was delivered to the Putnam County school by Federal Express on Thursday, but the principal's suspicion was immediately raised due to a strong odor emanating from the box and she had the box moved to the rear of the school property.
After an X-ray taken by the bomb squad "determined that the package wasn't a threat," police opened it and found the marijuana, said Kent police Lt. Alex DiVernieri.
The return label contained a woman's name and a Gardena, Calif., address but police there said the address turned out to be a vacant lot, and the woman did not exist, Kent police said.
