An American accused of raping his daughter will appear in a Hong Kong court Friday for an extradition hearing, police said.

Kenneth John Freeman, 44, was arrested Wednesday at the border between Hong Kong and mainland China, police said.

He remains in police custody and will appear at the Eastern Magistrates' Court early Friday, Hong Kong police said in a statement Thursday.

"Whether or not the arrested person will be extradited back to the U.S. and when that will take place would depend very much on the progress of judicial proceedings," the police statement said.

Freeman, a former sheriff's deputy from Washington state, has been described by US authorities as one of the world's most notorious child molesters. He is accused of raping his own daughter and posting the video of the attack on the Internet.
