A baby sitter who suffocated an infant under her body when she collapsed in a drunken stupor was sentenced to five years in prison Friday after pleading guilty to the charges.

Dianne Jordan, 52, was scheduled to go on trial for murder next week but pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of involuntary manslaughter in an agreement with prosecutors. Authorities say the mother of 8-month-old Deja Jones returned to her southeast DeKalb County home on Jan. 19, 2006, to find Jordan lying on the baby.

Medics could not revive the child.

Jordan, the baby's great aunt, has been free on bond since February 2006. She must begin serving her sentence April 27 and must attend alcohol treatment while behind bars and during the five-year probation that follows.
