The stepfather of a man killed in a hit-and-run has been charged in the accident, police said Tuesday.
William Luther, 46, of Cabot, was driving the vehicle that hit and killed Jason Bear, 27, on Sunday night, Vermont State Police said.
Luther, who contacted police Monday, told them he was intoxicated when he hit Bear, said State Police spokesman Sgt. John Flannigan.
"Everything appears it was accidental," Flannigan said. "The relationship between these two was good."
Bear's body was found Monday morning along the side of Vermont Route 215. He was last seen walking along the road at about 7:45 p.m. Sunday.
Luther, who was to make his first court appearance Tuesday, is charged with leaving the scene of an accident with death resulting and driving while under the influence with death resulting, police said.
The car Luther was driving has been located in Williamstown, police said.
