Worshippers on Sunday threw fireworks at a shaman playing the Taiwanese god Handan as he was carried on a sedan chair during a religious procession in Taitung, Taiwan.
In Taiwanese folklore, the god Handan is said to be in charge of wealth and very afraid of the cold. When he goes on a procession his followers bombard him with fireworks in the hope of keeping him warm and, consequently, winning his favor.

The shaman usually wears nothing except a red headscarf, an amulet on his chest and red shorts and a banyan tree branch to protect his eyes.
Taitung is 217 miles south east of Taipei, Taiwan.
