Authorities on Friday found a 4-year-old boy whose mother said he was abducted after she was allegedly burned by her roommate.
After acting on a tip from the child's grandparents and babysitter, Christian Varesi was returned to authorities at a gas station, according to Newton County authorities. Authorities had issued a Levi's Call child abduction alert after the boy's mother reported he was abducted.
The suspect was identified as James Gowan, who was found in a home a few doors down from the babysitter's home. Authorities said he had burns on his hand and told them he never had the child with him.
Newton County Sheriff's Capt. Mark Thomas said Mary Varesi, the child's mother, was airlifted to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta just after 1 a.m. to be treated for burns.
She was listed Friday in serious condition.
