Report: Lindsay Lohan's Infatuation With 'Spider-Man' Star May Have Driven Her to Rehab

Lindsay Lohan's unrequited infatuation with "Spider-Man" star James Franco may have been what finally sent her over the edge and into rehab, sources told the New York Daily News.

The handsome star rebuffed Lohan at Prince’s Golden Globes after-party at the Beverly Wilshire hotel Monday night, bringing her to tears, a fellow guest told the Daily News.

“She came with her manager, Jason Weinberg, and a girlfriend, but she was mostly solo for the whole night,” said the Daily News' source.

“Most people were in a good mood — except for her. She seemed lost. She was trying to get James’ attention, and he wouldn’t give her anything. She was smoking a lot, not drinking in front of him, and then she went into a bedroom. From there, she went back to trying to get James’ attention again, and he was ignoring her. She ran out crying, with the girlfriend following her.”

This was about 3:30 a.m.; Lohan was reportedly found passed out in a hotel hallway about 6 a.m.

Lohan first met Franco in June at the premiere party for “A Prairie Home Companion” at the Hudson Hotel.

“She was really taken with him,” another source told the News. “She and her friends were going on to Bungalow 8, and he went along.”

The two filmed a trailer together that was used in the film “Holiday.” People magazine reported that they hit karaoke night at Guy’s Bar in West Hollywood in October and two nights later danced together at Area, also in West Hollywood.

But last year, the 20-year-old “Bobby” star was linked with Harry Morton, Joaquin Phoenix, Sean Lennon, Jared Leto, Wilmer Valderrama, Brett Ratner, Johnny Knoxville and Diana Ross’ son, Evan, among others.

Franco, 28, who dated rocker and actress Marla Sokoloff for years and tends to be monogamous, got interested in somebody else “and is very happy in his relationship with his girlfriend,” another source told the Daily News.

Franco even refused a pricey watch Lohan tried to give him. It’s now the second watch she wears, allegedly as a painful reminder of him.

In addition to alcohol and drug addiction, Lohan's posh, spa-like, palm tree-laden rehab center, the Wonderland Center in Laurel Canyon, Calif., touts that it also treats “love addicts who believe the perfect partner is waiting for them."

Meanwhile, before publicly checking into rehab Wednesday, a hard-partying Lohan quietly spent a month at the facility as an outpatient — smuggling in her friends as if she were on vacation, a source told the New York Post.

"She is treating rehab like a getaway weekend," a friend of the actress told the Post Thursday. "She has had a constant stream of friends coming in and out of the treatment center — basically taking the L.A. party circuit with her into rehab."

Thursday night, Lohan's mom Dina Lohan revealed in an interview with "Entertainment Tonight" and "The Insider" that there had been several attempts at an intervention and that her daughter is in a "better spiritual and mental place."

"Even though it's our personal business as to why she's in rehab, she knows that she has issues, and obviously, if you're in rehab you're not there for an eating disorder," Dina Lohan said.

"There have been several interventions and I'm happy that Lindsay has taken the initiative to be in a better spiritual and mental place."

On Wednesday, Lohan issued the following statement though her publicist:

"I have made a proactive decision to take care of my personal health. I appreciate your well wishes and ask that you please respect my privacy at this time."
