Thief Steals Dead Mother's Video to Young Son From Michigan Home

A woman dying of cancer began making videotapes of her family's time together so her 5-year-old son would remember her. Now, almost all of the tapes are gone.

A few weeks after Melanie Worthington's death, robbers walked into her parents' home and stole two video recorders and most of the videotapes.

Detectives had no suspects Friday, and the family has no copies of the tapes, Ottawa County Sheriff's Lt. Mark Bennett said.

"It was like someone had come out and taken her away from us a second time," her sister Marnie told The Grand Rapids Press.

Worthington was 39 when she died Thanksgiving weekend after struggling with pancreatic cancer.

Worthington's mother said the family was able to offer a reward of about $200 for the return of the tapes and other items stolen from the home on Dec. 10.
