Lots of fanfare, leaks — LOTS of leaks — press conferences, meetings after breakfast and finally a 150 page report with 79 recommendations called — and you are not going to believe this — "A New Way Forward."
What is the matter with us? First, we hire a bunch of retired men and women whose average ages are around 106, and then we ask them to come up with "new ideas" on Iraq?
Now, it seems like we are even outsourcing our foreign policy! There are over 1,500 allegedly smart people working in the White House, over 25,000 in the Pentagon, thousands upon thousands of paid lawyers, planners, bosses, secretaries — and we need commissions to tell us how to make Iraq work? I gotta tell ya, this goes in the you-have-got-to-be-kidding-me column.
The report itself is DOA, that is, Dead on Arrival. This administration has sent every signal that they are not going to play and, by the way, there are a pile of more "studies" coming. Oh boy.
Here is the deal: This month, 30 soldiers have been killed and hundreds wounded in eight days. While this was happening, our government has been studying what to do. What to do? DO? How about we arrest al Sadr and disband all the militias? How about we send some of these government workers, that need outsiders to do their work, to Iraq to help with the government there?
If more of our government were actually involved in the war we would have cleaned up Iraq two years ago.
