Some of the closest aides to mayor-elect Adrian Fenty are upset he did not consult them when choosing a new police chief.

Fenty said he only consulted his city administrator, Dan Tangherlini, about the nomination of D.C. Police Commander Cathy Lanier for police chief.

The decision for police chief is an important one. Some public safety experts on Fenty's transition team, the two chairmen of his campaign and key campaign consultants were miffed at being left out of the decision process.

They say they were even surprised by his choice of Lanier because he had not mentioned her.

This has some people concerned about his maverick style and one-person decision making when he takes office.
