MEXICO CITY – Tropical Storm Sergio formed off the Pacific coast of Mexico on Tuesday, and it was expected to become a hurricane later in the week as it draws closer to land.

The unusual late-season storm was the second to form in the eastern Pacific this month. Only five tropical storms have formed later in the year than Sergio, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center in Miami, Florida.
