A woman was struck and killed by a drag racing motorcyclist, the fourth fatality involving motorcycles during the city's annual Biketoberfest festival, police said.
Nora Cardona, 39, of Coconut Creek, was crossing the street with her husband about 11 a.m. Saturday when she was hit by a speeding motorcycle and dragged 162 feet, Daytona Beach police said.
Her husband, Boris, was not injured.
"He ended up taking the woman right out of the man's hand," witness Brandon Walden said. "This is the craziest thing I've ever seen. The last thing she remembers is holding his hand."
The motorcycle's driver, Kreso F. Orlic, 22, of Carlstadt, N.J., faces vehicular manslaughter charges, said Daytona Beach Lt. Jimmie Flynt. He was hospitalized, but his injuries were not life threatening, police said. Information on his legal representation was unavailable Sunday.
Police said Orlic was racing two friends, accelerating to 59 mph in only 200 feet before he collided with Cardona. The speed limit on the road is 50 mph.
On Thursday, the first day of the four-day event, three motorcyclists attending the festival were killed in separate accidents in Volusia and Flagler counties, authorities said.
Two festival-goers died at last year's Biketoberfest, and three others died just before that year's event began. Thousands of people attend.
