Lafayette College canceled a student political group's invitation to Republican gubernatorial candidate Lynn Swann to visit the campus Wednesday.

Sara Walter, a representative of the group, says Lafayette College Republicans had invited Swann to participate in a conference call with other college Republican chapters across the state and take part in a question-and-answer session.

Organizers moved the event off the campus, to the Pomfret Club, when college President Daniel Weiss said it couldn't be held on campus.

Weiss applauded the students' enthusiasm for the political process but said the college must assure that all voices in the political arena are heard. He said Swann could not appear on campus unless the Democratic incumbent, Governor Ed Rendell, were also invited.
