A 17-year-old boy stabbed his mother to death during a confrontation about his relationship with a 12-year-old girl, police said.
Officers arrived at their home Thursday night and found Maria Ruiz, 47, lying in the front yard with two stab wounds. She later died at Sierra View Hospital.
Police said Ruiz's son became angry when the mother of the 12-year-old girl, who lived next door, forbade the two to see each other again. He went to their home, threatening to kill the girl and her younger siblings, and broke into the house by kicking through a door and breaking windows, police said.
The girl ran next door to get help from Ruiz, who confronted her son and was stabbed with a kitchen knife.
The boy, who was not named because of his age, was arrested on suspicion of homicide, three counts of attempted homicide and lewd and lascivious sexual conduct with a child under 14. He was being held in the Tulare County Juvenile Facility.
