A North Carolina native who told authorities she was kidnapped during a shopping trip in Kyrgyzstan returned Thursday to her Georgia Air Force base, the military said.

Maj. Jill Metzger was reported missing last week and the same week found by local officials. She is a native of Henderson, N.C.

Metzger arrived at Moody Air Force Base about 6 p.m. from Landstuhl Regional Medical Center near Ramstein Air Base, Germany, where she was taken for debriefings and medical evaluations. Metzger had been deployed to Manas Air Base as part of an Air Expeditionary Task Force.

Metzger told Air Force officials that she was focused on getting back to normal and wanted to spend time with her family. Her family met her at the base.

"We are elated that Jill is home and we have a team in place to help get her through the final phases of the reintegration process," said Col. Kenn Todorov, vice commander of the 347th Rescue Wing. "Her health and well being are our primary concern right now as we help on her path to full recovery."
