Truck Hits Tennessee House, Kills Man Dozing on Couch

A man asleep on his enclosed porch was killed when a pickup truck crashed into his house, authorities said.

Chuck Finchum, 57, had dozed off on a coach around 6:30 p.m. Sunday when a truck driven by Edward W. Smith, 56, of Kodak ran off the road in front of Finchum's house. The truck struck a large tree in the yard before ramming into the structure.

Finchum was dead at the scene. Smith was airlifted to the University of Tennessee Medical Center in Knoxville with broken bones, authorities said. UT officials said he was in stable condition Monday.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol was investigating the wreck and charges were possible, according to Sevier County authorities.
