A Chicago man was arrested Friday for trying to get onto the White House grounds through the gate where ticketholders are allowed in for public tours, the Secret Service said.

Secret Service spokeswoman Kim Bruce said 25-year-old Rob Rankin got into a scuffle with an officer who tried to stop him at the complex's southeast gate. He was arrested for unlawful entry and assault on a police officer, she said.

"He was stopped," Bruce said. "He did not gain entry."

President Bush was away for a long weekend with his family in Kennebunkport, Maine, at the time of Rankin's arrest.
