DUESSELDORF, Germany – The Material Girl thinks a "mystical" material can clean up radioactive waste.
Madonna and her husband, filmmaker Guy Ritchie, both followers of the Jewish spiritual movement Kaballah, have lobbied the British government to use the magic, water-based liquid - which they say was successfully tested in a Russian lake, it was reported Sunday.
"It was like a crank call . . . the scientific mechanisms and principles were just bollocks, basically," an official told London's Sunday Times.
Madonna reportedly approached Downing Street, before being directed to other agencies.
"She relentlessly pursued people," said a former official. "She wanted to get this Russian scientist to explain this to civil servants."
But her campaign bogged down in bureaucracy.
"It was a case of pass the parcel," the former official said.
The Kabbalah Centre, based in California, believes water can be given magic healing powers through "meditations and the consciousness of sharing."
