Kellie Martin, who starred in the much lauded late-'80s/early '90s teen drama "Life Goes On," is applying that title to her own personal drama. The 30-year-old actress and her husband, former Yale classmate Keith Christian, are expecting their first child in October.
Motherhood, she says, is not a role she feels well prepared to handle.
"I never even baby-sat," she said. "The only time I've changed a diaper is when my friend, who just had a baby, called and said, `Come over, you need to practice.'"
Martin recently got some hands-on experience with a baby in her role as Samantha Kinsey, a mystery-bookstore owner-turned-amateur sleuth in Hallmark Channel's "Mystery Woman."
In the latest installment of the "Mystery Movies" series, scheduled to air Saturday, Martin's character ends up caring for a suspect's infant.
On many sets, twins are used to portray infants. In Martin's movie, 6-month-old triplet boys were used.
"I looked at the mother, who was taking care of these three little babies, and I thought, 'I can't imagine how demanding that must be. I'm just going to get one. Yeah, I can do this!'"
Martin's credits also include the hit series "ER."
