ANKARA, Turkey – A bus carrying Iranian tourists crashed into a truck in eastern Turkey on Friday, killing 17 and injuring 25, the state-run Anatolia news agency reported.
The crash occurred in the eastern province of Van, near the border with Iran, the agency said. The bus hit the truck in the rear.
The Iranians were returning from a visit to religious sites in Syria, private NTV television reported.
Each year, thousands of people are killed in traffic accidents on Turkey's roads, many of which consist of just two lanes, are badly lit and poorly patrolled.
