A 14-month-old boy reported kidnapped in a home invasion robbery Sunday was found unharmed hours later in the back of a pickup truck several miles away.
A jogger returning to his vehicle at Fairmount Park found the baby crying in the open-air bed of his truck.
The baby, Dowyane Reid, was "a little dehydrated, a little lethargic, but OK," police Lt. George McClay said.
The child's family reported that as many as 10 masked, armed men removed a window air conditioner and broke into their northwest Philadelphia row house at about 5:50 a.m.
The baby's father and uncle told police they were pistol-whipped and bound because they could not produce cash and jewelry. The two men were treated at a hospital for minor head injuries.
The family said Dowyane's mother and her 3-year-old daughter were forced into a closet, and that the kidnappers vowed to keep the baby until they got the cash and jewelry they sought.
An Amber Alert was issued before Dowyane was found at about 12:30 p.m.
The owner of the pickup was about to drive home to suburban Drexel Hill when he noticed the baby and notified authorities.
