This time, the slogan isn't "It's the economy, stupid."

Instead, Hillary Rodham Clinton says Democrats are going with "It's the American dream, stupid."

Top Democrats holding an annual meeting in Denver have taken a cue from the line that helped her husband take office. They've unveiled a plan they say is aimed at convincing the nation that the American dream isn't dead.

They say their "American Dream Initiative" will reverse a dozen years of Republican economic policies and prove the nation can "work for everyone, not just the privileged."

The proposals include steps to cut federal spending and make college and health care more affordable.

Clinton said Republicans have failed to provide the nation with economic security, but the GOP is taking issue with that. A Republican National Committee spokesman pointed to job creation and economic growth over the past three years.
