Marine Threatens to Kill Himself While Standing With Rifle in Cul-De-Sac

LOVELAND, Colo. – A 19-year-old Marine armed with a rifle was standing in a cul-de-sac and threatening to kill himself Wednesday, police said.

His name was not released.

Police Sgt. Rae Bontz said several homes were evacuated but the man had not threatened to hurt anyone else.

Police negotiators gave the man a phone and were trying to persuade him to surrender, Bontz said.

Bontz said he does not know what type of rifle the man was carrying or whether it was a military weapon.
