Like any bride on the night before the big day, all Nicole Kidman wants is a good night's rest.
"I'm going to get some sleep," Kidman said when asked what her plans were for the Saturday night before she ties the knot with country music star Keith Urban in Sydney.
Kidman spoke briefly on Saturday to the media pack that has been following her every move for almost week since she came home to Australia.
On the eve of the Hollywood A-list wedding, the 39-year-old actress emerged only briefly Saturday from the waterfront mansion she once shared with Tom Cruise to visit her parents, Antony and Janelle, in their northern Sydney home.
Russel Crowe, Naomi Watts, Hugh Jackman and Rupert Murdoch are among the Australian-linked Hollywood players expected at the ceremony, widely tipped for Sunday evening. Urban, a Grammy winner but a lesser light than Kidman, has brought his family in from rural Australia.
They want a "normal wedding" like any other couple, the singer's manager said Saturday.
Kidman, born in Hawaii to Australian parents, and Urban, born in New Zealand and raised in Australia, have been swamped with attention since they jetted into Sydney days ago and confirmed their plans to wed.
"Nicole and Keith just want a normal wedding and to celebrate with their friends and family," Urban's manager Rob Potts said Saturday. "They're both just happy to have their family around them at this time and both are really excited and very happy about the wedding."
But with scores of reporters and photographers, and at least half a dozen helicopters following their every move, the Kidman-Urban nuptials will likely be far from ordinary.
Details of the event have been closely guarded — with many reported guests saying they don't know when or where the wedding is to take place — prompting a flurry of speculation about the ceremony's finer points.
Several pages of Saturday's newspapers were filled with possible details of the affair, including what the bride would wear, who might be on the guest list, and what will they eat.
Around 230 guests are expected to watch the pair exchange vows at a gothic-style stone church overlooking Sydney's iconic Manly beach shortly after dusk Sunday.
Some media have predicted that Kidman's sister Antonia and Watts, an Australian longtime friend, will be among the bridesmaids, and that "Moulin Rouge" director Baz Luhrmann will have a hand in doing the video.
For the dress, local media have predicted Kidman will return to her preferred design house, Balenciaga, which has produced a custom-designed white gown with "lots of high collars," The Sydney Morning Herald reported.
In her short appearance Saturday, the 39-year-old Oscar-winner said she and Urban were "very happy."
It is the first marriage for Urban but the second for Kidman, whose 10-year marriage to Cruise ended in 2001.
Her liaison with the superstar shot her to worldwide attention in the late 1990s, though she had been gradually increasing her profile and acting kudos with roles in film including 1989's "Dead Calm" and 1991's "Billy Bathgate," with Dustin Hoffman.
She won an Oscar for her role as Virginia Woolf in the 2002 film "The Hours" after selecting more arthouse roles, including Stanley Kubrick's 1999 film "Eyes Wide Shut," in which she and Cruise starred as wealthy New Yorkers in a troubled marriage.
Urban was awarded a Grammy this year for best male country vocalist.
