SEVIERVILLE, Tenn. – A former Sevierville high school teacher pleaded guilty Monday to charges of the statutory rape of a 16-year-old student.
Sevier County Circuit Court Judge Richard Vance set a sentencing hearing for July 24. The Knoxville News Sentinel reported that District Attorney General Al Schmutzer Jr. recommended an 18-month sentence for Oakes.
The judge earlier this year rejected Oakes' request for pretrial diversion, which would have expunged a rape conviction from her record if she behaved during a probationary period.
Oakes, who is married with children, will remain free on bond.
