ORLANDO, Fla. – Orlando is out as a possible site for the 2008 Democratic convention.
City officials decided that the likely price tag of $100 million was too much to stage the summertime event and notified the Democratic National Committee that it was out of the competition.
On the Republican side, officials in Washington haven't completely ruled out the locale for their presidential nominating convention.
Aaron McLean, a spokesman for the Republican National Committee, said the party has received notice that Florida's Orange County is no longer seeking to host, but has gotten no official word from the city of Orlando.
Cities have until May 19 to notify the Democrats of their interest. The Republican deadline is May 22.
