A freeway chase in southern California has ended with the shooting death of an armed murder suspect.

Authorities say the man had been sought in the fatal shooting of another man last night in Torrance.

He led police on a freeway chase during this morning's rush hour, before an exchange of fire with police that killed the suspect.

Before the gunfire, his car was struck by one of the pursuing police cars and spun out on a transition road between two freeways in southern Los Angeles County.

Police say he'd been "swerving in and out of traffic" in an obvious effort to evade arrest.
