DENVER – A bus carrying 24 middle school students crashed into a house Wednesday, and several people were taken to hospitals, officials said.
The extent of the injuries was not immediately known, but at least 17 people were taken to a hospital. Fire Department spokesman Phil Champagne said that the force of the crash was significant but that the inside of the bus did not appear heavily damaged.
The bus hit a car and then traveled another 300 yards, crossing several lawns and a street, then hitting the house, Champagne said. The home had significant structural damage.
After the crash, medical personnel attended to several children on a lawn across the street while others loaded patients into ambulances.
The driver was "shaken up and in a little shock," Champagne said. It was not immediately known whether she was among the injured or whether anyone was in the house at the time of the crash.
